Printer Guide

What the printer's light means, what the dashboard status means, and what to do when something looks wrong.

The light on the printer

One small light on the device — its color and pattern tell you what it's doing right now.

White — slow blink
Starting up, connecting to WiFi.
Green — solid, for 1 second
WiFi just connected successfully.
Orange — fast blink
WiFi connection dropped — the printer is trying to reconnect on its own.
Usually clears up within a minute. If it doesn't, check the venue's WiFi/router.
Red — blink
WiFi is fine, but no printer is detected. This means nothing is plugged into the printer's USB port.
Check the USB cable between the board and the printer.
Cyan — dim, steady
Everything's fine — printer's connected and waiting for the next job. This is the normal "ready" state.
Yellow
A job came in and is downloading.
Blue
Sending the job to the printer — it should be printing right now.
Green — quick flash
That print job finished.
Magenta — 4 fast flashes
Something went wrong partway through a job.
Check the queue on the dashboard — the job will show as "Failed" and can be resent.
Magenta — slow, steady pulse
Setup mode is open — the printer is waiting for WiFi details or a pairing code.
Normal when setting up a new printer. See "Pairing a new printer" below.

Printer status on the dashboard

Shown at the top of the dashboard — this is what those three states mean.

Printer online Everything's working — the board is on, connected, and a printer is plugged in.
Waiting for printer The board itself is on and connected, but no printer is plugged into it (matches the red blinking light above).
Printer offline The board itself isn't reachable — it's off, unplugged, or has no WiFi.

Common questions

The printer isn't printing — what do I check?
  1. Look at the dashboard status badge (above) — does it say online, waiting, or offline?
  2. If it says "Waiting for printer" or you see a red blinking light: check the USB cable between the board and the printer.
  3. If it says "Printer offline": check that the board has power, and that the venue's WiFi is up.
  4. If the light looks normal (dim cyan) but a specific order didn't come out: check the Queue on the dashboard — find the job and hit Resend.
Pairing a new printer

From the dashboard's Venue Settings, hit "Generate pairing code." Power on the new printer, connect a phone to its "RandoLabs-Setup" WiFi network, and enter the venue's WiFi details plus that code on the screen that opens. No cable needed.

The printer ran out of paper mid-job

Reload the paper, then go to the dashboard Queue and hit Resend on that job — it won't reprint on its own.
